Not too sue where the "gutsy women" come in; these tips are mostly common sense. Maybe it's because the book was written in 1996 and the wisdom in it is much more well-known now than it was then. Still it's a quick read and has some valuable information for the first-time traveler. Read full review

Marybeth Bond is a travel writer, consultant, and keynote speaker on women's travel. Her books include "50 Best Girlfriends Getaways in North America; Gutsy Women: More Travel Tips and Wisdom for the Road; A Women's World" (winner of the Lowell Thomas award for Best Travel Book); "A Woman's Passion for Travel; A Mother's World;" and "Gutsy Mamas." She has been the travel expert for CBS/Evening Magazine and regulary appears on numerous television and radio shows. She currently serves as adventure editor at "travelgirl" magazine.
