Posiblemente uno de los libros que combine mejor la investigación empírica y el desarrollo de teoría. De esta forma ofrece un conocimiento complejo y directo, ofreciendo respuestas importantes a académicos y terapeutas, desde una perspectiva que no manipula la información sino que es capaz de ofrecer una perspectiva teórica que la explica, la ordena y da sentido, una perspectiva constructivista y discursiva que no cae en banalidades y tópicos sobre el género. Me parece especialmente útil para aquellos interesados en el género, el feminismo, las feminidades y las masculinidades. Eso sí... no hay trraducción al español que yo conozca, pero para alguien con un conocimiento intermedio, o intermedio alto del inglés no le resultará especialmente difícil de leer.

Acerca del autor (1998)

Deborah Lupton is SHARP professor in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, UNSW Sydney, working in the Center for Social Research in Health and the Social Policy Research Center and leading the Vitalities Lab. She is the author/co-author of 17 books, the latest of which are Digital Sociology (Routledge, 2015), The Quantified Self (Polity, 2016), Digital Health (Routledge, 2017), Fat, 2nd edition (Routledge, 2018), and Data Selves (Polity, 2019). She is a fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and holds an honorary doctor of social science degree awarded by the University of Copenhagen.
