She is a Mark Twain Quarry Farm Research Fellow and an Ezra Jack Keats/de Grummond Collection Children's Literature Research Fellow. She is a frequent contributor to Greenwood's Biography series. She is the author of J. K. Rowling: A Biography (2003), Mark Twain: A Biography (2004), and Emily Dickinson: A Biography (2004).
