When Methodism had been quite ruined in Yormouth, and the work was to be begun again, as already related, Mr. S. was one of the first and firmest members of the new Society, which he supported with all the ability and influence he possessed. His heart and his house were open to receive Mr. Wesley and his coadjutors in the ministry; his purse likewise was open whenever its aid was required. He became a trustee for the first chapel, as well as for the second, and was a principal instrument in the erection of both; and for many years after their erection, the chief management of their affairs was confided to him. Mr. S. was also steward of the Society in Yarmouth for a number of years; and for not much less than forty years, he was leader of one of the classes in this place. In all these stations he manifested such a zeal for Methodism, as showed how sincerely he believed it to be no other than the cause of God: And it is due to his memory to declare, that he was a good man, that he lived in the faith of Jesus, and died in peace with God and with all mankind. It is"n intended to eulogize every measure-which Mr. S. pursued with regard to Methodism. But it would betray a censurable want of Christian candour to be blind, merely on that ground, to the general excellence of his character, which reflected a lustre upon the paths of his feet for so large a portion of his happier years.--The death of Mr. John Sewell was attended with one circumstance which was thought somewhat remarkable at the time, riamely, the death of Mr. R.
