T E Brown was headmaster at the Crypt school Gloucester where William Ernest Henley was a pupil. and was no doubt influenced greatly
Henley became Englands most patriotic poet , in recent years his poem "Invictus" has come to prominence.
Written when he was in hospital in Edinburgh trying to save his remaining leg from tuberculocis.
It shows triumph over adversity as his leg was saved.
His close friend Robert Louis Stevenson admitted that he based long John Silver on his burly one legged friend Henley.
