Loading... The Columbia History of Twentieth-Century French Thought (edition 2005)by Lawrence Kritzman, Lawrence D. Kritzman (Editor), Malcolm DeBevoise (Translator)This is a comprehensive history divided into four major parts: movements and currents; themes; individual intellectuals; and dissemination (media et al). The combination of different approaches obviously leads to some overlap but it is also a way to keep the entries focused and not overly long. Christian Delacampagne’s entries on the Paris School of Existentialism, Phenomenology, Heidegger in France and Jean-Paul Sartre are very insightful. Marcel Henaff provides a clear introduction to Levi-Strauss which also puts his structuralism in the context of other intellectual currents. |
